SHU undertakes review of the 2011/12 Social Housing Fund

24/05/12

SHU is currently undertaking a review of the 2011/12 Social Housing Fund with the sector which will inform the development of future funding rounds.

In date in 2011/12, SHU has allocated $32m of Government funding to Non-Government Providers (NGPs) for the provision of new social and affordable housing in New Zealand. This funding was delivered through the Social Housing Fund's four sub-funds (Growth, Niche, Māori and Rural).

SHU is currently undertaking a review of the 2011/12 Social Housing Fund. The purpose of this review is two-fold:

  • to positively engage with the sector in a structured way (and which adds to the anecdotal feedback we have received to date), and to apply the lessons learned from this engagement to future Social Housing Fund funding rounds; and,
  • to ensuring that the outcomes from the 2011/12 Social Housing Fund aligned with the SHU's funding priorities.

Feedback from 2011/12 Social Housing Fund applicants will be invited at a series of Regional Forums, to take place from June 11, 2012, as follows:

 Location  Date
 Whangarei  11 June 2012
 Auckland  12 June 2012
 Tauranga  13 June 2012
 Wellington  15 June 2012
 Christchurch  19 June 2012
 Dunedin  20 June 2012

Further information on the forums, including venues and timetables, will be posted on the SHU's website in the near future. Applicants to the Social Housing Fund's four sub-funds and other key stakeholders will also be notified directly as to how they can contribute to the review.

In addition to this, the Regional Forums will provide the opportunity for the SHU to engage with NGPs and other key stakeholders on the Interim Social Housing Investment Plan (SHIP), and how best SHU can support the development of the NGP sector in the short-term, thereby assisting to grow the total number of social and affordable houses available for New Zealanders in housing need.

An outline paper setting out a series of questions for discussion will be distributed to attendees about a week prior to each forum.

We look forward to discussing these issues with you.
